Julien van Hout
Julien van Hout is a research engineer in SRI International’s Speech Technology and Research (STAR) Laboratory. His research interests include signal processing and machine learning for automatic speech recognition, noise robustness, spoken term detection, acoustic-based multimedia event detection, and multimodal system calibration and fusion.
At SRI, van Hout is a key contributor to SRI's spoken term detection system for the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) Robust Automatic Transcription of Speech (RATS) program. He is also actively involved in developing the speech recognition-based multimedia event detection module and the multimodal fusion module for the Intelligence Advanced Research Projects Activity (IARPA) Automated Low-Level Analysis and Description of Diverse Intelligence Video (ALADDIN) program.
He has published seven papers in the areas of noise robustness for automatic speech recognition, multimedia event detection, and spoken term detection. He holds a M.S. from UCLA and a B.S. from École Polytechnique, both in electrical engineering.
