Sondrestrom Upper Atmospheric Research Facility
Since 1983, researchers from SRI's Center for GeoSpace Studies have studied the polar upper atmosphere at the Sondrestrom facility in Kangerlussuaq, Greenland. SRI operates the facility under the auspices of the U.S. National Science Foundation and in cooperation with Denmark's Meteorological Institute. Many of the facility’s more than 20 instruments provide unique and complementary information.
Each year, hundreds of scientists use data from the facility; and dozens of scientists, engineers, and students visit to install enhancements and collect data in real time.
For more information, visit the Sondrestrom facility website. Requests for data are handled by each instrument’s principal investigator; a detailed facility description and visitor information are also available. Questions about adding additional instruments can be also answered.
